[ Personality ] ;; Epse is more of an Introvert than anything else. Wanting to be more alone than anything else, since her social anxiety starts flaring up. She is often found curled up in her bed or staying close to the family's daughter, Jane. She is seen as one of the few calm children of the farm, which is surprising to say. Staying away from everyone is like a job to her, being that people always bother her, thinking they need to help her in some way. She rarely finds anyone to just talk to about how she feels, which often makes her feel extremely alone in the world.
Epse is a dreamer, always wanting to do something, but due to her social anxiety and always wanting to please people, she doesn't get to what she wants to do all the time. Epse wants to please everyone and make them feel as if she is always right there for them and wants to please them so much. She wants to feel... useful. She wants to be noticed by everyone that she can actually do something, other than just be useless and do nothing everyday of her life. This is what helped ramp up her anxiety to an unbearable point. If it wasn't for this fact, then she might have been easy to do more things than now a days.
Epse has been working with this issue of hers, but it always ends up worst, since she just wants to be perfect. She has slowly found out that she will never be perfect and has started to change her ways, but it still doesn't work well. In her mind, Epse will still want to be perfect and hopes to just calm down some. If she would learn to look past others feelings about herself, then maybe she could learn to be a better dog in the future. A dreamer at heart, but someone who hides their true feelings and doesn't like to make others feel like they should look after her.
She needs help, someone who can feel the same way as her, this is one of the reasons she gets along with Jane and the little girl from her past. They were both dreamers, who hid their feelings. Wanting something they couldn't have. Trying to be the perfect person they wanted to be, but couldn't.
[ History ] ;; Espe had a rough start in her life. She was born in the a pit, well not really in the pit, but her parents owner ran the whole operation. They were the only dogs that weren't bred for fighting in the whole place. That doesn't mean the place was rough. Dogs tied on chains all around you, barking every hour of the day. Fur always having to be cleaned up along with the blood. It was a horrible place to grow in, that and if you even looked at a dog wrong you would typically get attacked. Espe was the runt of her litter thought, always being left behind and seemingly always being slower at everything. She was the last one to even open her eyes and often didn't even speak to either of parents, making them think she was a mute. She was there only for the first month of her life, behind the owner had had enough of how weak she was. The first thought Espe had was she was going to become a bait dog, but she was wrong...
One day Espe was taken by her owner into the car, her siblings staying home and her parents. Espe sat quietly curled up in the front seat of the old beaten-up pickup truck. The road long and bumpy to get away from the pit fighting ring. Still, it wasn't long before they hit smooth roads, waking Espe from her nap, wondering what was going on. Espe stood up on her hind legs and looked out the pickup's windows, seeing only woods for miles. She whined loudly, turning around, tail tucked, and looked up at her owner. Or should we say, soon to be ex-owner. The man didn't even look over at Espe, he just kept driving on, not stopping, that was 'till he pulled up off the road. They had been driving from what seemed like hours. Espe whimpered once more and looked up out of the window, only seeing trees. The man got out of the truck, his whole body shaking the truck, making Espe fall over. She whimpered loudly, turning in circles in the car seat, unsure of what was happening. The man opened up the passenger side door and picked up Espe. Espe looked around her, scared out of her mind about what was happening. Then the man, dropped Espe down on the side of the road, not even a nice set down, just a drop! He got back in the car and drove off, leaving Espe there.
Espe looked around, confused on what had just happened, she wasn't used to being alone. Espe whined, called out. Her small cries doing nothing but echoing off of the walls around her. She whimpered loudly, her tail stubby tail tucked in between her legs. Spinning in circles, trying to see where she was. She looked off behind her, seeing the road, she looked out and saw it as a way to get out of here. She waddled over and looked around, not seeing any cars. Then there was a rustle in the bush behind her. Out hopped some dogs, they were running from somewhere. Both seemed out of breath. She looked up at them, knowing they were running from the dog fighting. She heard yelling behind them, the shorter one of the two, what seemed to be a female picked her up and started running with them. The two dogs were fast, running as fast as they could.
It seemed like a while, before the dogs got to a small down, they all ducked into an alleyway, watching as the humans ran past. The female dog sat her down and sniffed her, a slight growl coming from her chest.
"What were you doing out there kid? It's dangerous," the female said, a stern look on her face.
"The man took me out there and just left me, I just want to go back home," Espe looked down, her eyes slowly letting her cry.
The other dog had his head low to the ground, as if he was listening for something. That's when Espe figured it out, he was feeling them run around. She had heard about a dog that had been born blind and deaf, a slight cousin of hers. He was almost pure white, besides a few patches on him that showed a liver merle. He lifted his head up, looking around, even thought he couldn't see anything.
"We are clear," his voice rough, focused.
The female tapped the ground and the male went and started off towards the city, Espe looked over at him. The female picked Espe up and started off the other way from the male. Espe looked up at the female, seeing that she had tears welling up in her eyes.
"Who was he?" Espe asked, curious.
"He goes by many names, but his real name is Blizzard," the female said.
Espe nodded, she would remember his name. For sure she would remember that name, they saved her, she had to remember them. The female walked into a backyard and up into the front yard. She dropped Espe down, looking up at the big door in front of them.
"Well kiddo, you're getting a new home, but quick question, what's your name?" the female looked down at Espe.
"I'm Mika, but I'm mostly called no name,"she sighed, looking down at her saw paws.
"Well Mika, I hope this place will start you over," the female said.
The female jumped up on her hind legs and scratched on the door, she then ran off the porch.
"Wait lad'! I never got your name!" Espe yelled out.
The last thing Espe heard from her was Perse, before she was cut off by the human picking her up. Espe now had a new home, somewhere she could feel safe from her dark start in life, but that's just what she thought.
Going forwards to where Espe was now almost a year old, she sat in that same house, bored out of her mind. The human had left her alone once more, yes she should have gotten used to it by now, but everyday she same home the human would pass her bye and just feed her. No playing. No talking. No belly rubs. No toys. Nothing! Espe growled and stood up, she walked into the humans food place, or as they called it, a kitchen. Espe looked around, smelling gas, but she ignored it and looked around the counters for food left out. She spotted some cereal and jumped up, hitting it off the counter. It spilled all over the floor and she began eating it. After eating what she could get out of the box she went to her bed and laid down. Espe fell asleep quickly, her belly full of food, she was a happy camper.
Espe awoke to the burning smell in her nose. It was fowl and was a horrid smell. She opened her eyes, winking rapidly to get the tiredness out of her eyes. That's when she saw it. The orange-ish red colors swirling around her. Fire. She stood straight up and looked around, panicking from what was happening around her. She yelped at the fire got even closer to her. She jumped over some ash on the floor and started sprinting straight to the front door. The fire hadn't gotten to far yet, it was still pretty controlled. Still, she could feel it right on her heels. She yelped as it got her rump once, her back fur being slightly charred and her stubby tail as well. She jumped out the doggy door and right into the street. She panted heavily. The fire burst out of the windows, making a loud noise, scaring Espe away. She yelped loudly and ran off with her tail between her legs. She ran though the whole town, till she was on the outskirts of the town. Espe sighed and shook off. Her collar flew off of her as a result. She looked down at it, all of the pain, but also good times attached to it. She sighed and began walked. It was once more, time for a new life.
A year had almost passed since Espe had been in the fire. She had been moved on to another city, larger than her old one, more strays at that. The only place you could get food was garage cans and you typically got yelled at or hit with a shoe from it. Espe walked around, her ribs slightly showing from lack of food. She had found a place when she first showed up, but up till two months ago it was good. Then a large pack of strays showed up and chased her out. Her stomach growling, making her growling. She didn't like this place anymore. She was dirty and covered in mud. She wanted to be clean. She wanted to others to just listen to her. Still, she was awkward, extremely awkward. She had never been really good at talking with others, never feeling comfortable, plus she doesn't share what she thinks, ever. This was one of the reasons she just happened asked to join the pack. She sighed and moved on. Walking into the backyard of a what she could tell was a small family's house. Then she got a whiff of what she was here for. Food. Her stub started wagging and she walked over to the trash can and quietly turned it over. She popped the lid off and started to dig in it. Just a few scraps, not much. She dug out some old donuts that the family had thrown out. Espe pulled them out and started to eat them, thinking they tasted wonderful. Scratching. Espe picked up her head, looking to the back door. She tried to step back, but fell over the trash can lid. She yelped and lowered her whole body down to the ground. Looking up, one eye open she walked as a young human walked out of the house. She was fair-skinned, only slightly taller than Espe, her long black hair up in pigtails. The girl yawned, holding her blanket close to her as she walked down the stairs. Espe backed up as much as she could, which wasn't much. The girl saw the trash can and she groaned, walking over to it. She picked it up the best she could and then went to grab the lid. That's when the girl spotted Espe. She gasped great big, one of her front teeth missing, while the other seemed to growing in. Espe whined, thinking that all humans were the same, like her previous owners, forgetting her in a few days. The girl reached her small hand out to touch Espe, making her pull back farther.
"It's alright doggy, I won't be hurtin' you," the girl smiled at Espe.
Espe tilted her head to the side slightly, looking at her. She was confused by what the girl had said. She wasn't going to hurt her. She did seem harmless, plus maybe she had good food. Espe slowly creeped up to the girl and let her touch her. A shiver went down Espe's spine, she hadn't been touched in a long time, it felt kind of good. The girl smiled and told Espe to follow her. Espe slowly followed the girl, sneaking past the little girl's mother, who seemed to be cleaning that place called a kitchen. Espe followed the girl into her room, which was wall to wall pink, filled with stuffed animals, fairy lights and some random scattered books.
"Alright doggy, don't leave my room, since mom will kick you out of the house, also I need a name for you," the girl looked at Espe seriously.
She didn't like the word kicked out. What did this kid's mom have against dogs? They were the best! Cuddles for days! Espe soon learned that the girl's name was Hannah and she would often call Espe, just Ana. Hannah would often bring up scraps from the humans' 'dinner' and feed them to Espe. She loved the scraps, sometimes she even got a special treat. One day Hannah came home from school and had two plushies. One was a small horse like creature, to which she later learned was a donkey. While the other was something she knew pretty well, a little brown chicken. Espe walked up to the chicken and started smelling it, trying to see if it was real or not. After maybe half an hour of sniffing the chicken, she figured out that it wasn't real. Hannah looked at Espe while she was sniffing it and finally just handed it to her.
"This is Mrs. Cluckington, I want you to have her, so if you ever get taken away that you will have her," Hannah smiled at Espe, tearing starting to stream down her face.
Espe was taken aback. She walked up to the girl and stuck her nose under the girl's arm. Hannah smiled at her and bent down to hug her. They sat there for a good long while. Everything in the world seemed good for a while. Only for a while. Only a day. No, less than a day. Then it all fell down. It happened like the snap of fingers.
After Hannah had gotten home that day everything went down. The mother found Espe. She wasn't happy about it. A fight broke out.
"Mom please! Just let me keep her! I have been keeping her well, I promise! I'm ready for a dog!" Hannah screamed, tears streaming down her face once more.
"Hannah what have I told you! No dogs! You know how I feel about them!" Mother yelled.
Espe backed up against the wall, ears down, tail between legs. She was scared, that's when her anxiety really flared up. She yelped and cried out.
"Stop mommy! You're scaring her!!!" Hannah screamed, running over to Espe.
The mother stopped and looked at the two. Hannah took Espe in her arms and started to pet her, keeping her calm. Espe held Mrs. Cluckington tight in her mouth, slightly ripping her. The mother sighed and told Hannah something. Espe never heard it, but the next thing she knew she was in the back of a car with Hannah. The landscape was much prettier than it was back where the pit fighting ring was. When the car stopped, it stopped at a large building, dogs barking everywhere, plus the smell of cats. Hannah took Espe by the scruff and started to walk her inside. They started talking to some people and the next thing Espe knew she was put in a large cage. She looked around, holding Mrs. Cluckington in her mouth. She turned to Hannah, who was once more crying. Espe ran over and nudged her arm, bending down Hannah gave the last hug. That was the last thing she saw of the little girl.
Espe was once again alone and ready for a new life. This was now her life at SCS.
[ Why the Chicken Plushie ] : It reminds Ana of the girl who risked it all just to let her have a good life. It is the only thing to remember little Hannah by. It now always reminds Ana of the good times and someone who cared for her. Ana loves Mrs. Cluckington with all of her heart and almost never lets go of her. She is attached very closely to the chicken, she has even been depressed when the plushie was taken away by the SCS staff to be fixed after she ripped a wing off. Ana is a little crazy when it comes to things that she get attached to, being that it wasn't very many things. Still, she has been working on not to growl at others who try to take it, unless they are making fun of her for it, which is typically a few males of her age.
